I am Arianna, from Italy. I joined the Institute of Geophysics in June 2019, as research assistant in sediment dynamics at the laboratory scale.
I obtained my Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Padua back in 2015, with a thesis in Geotechnics on the effects of entrainment into rapid landslides in term of increase of mobilised volume. I then moved to the Brandenburg Technical University of Cottbus-Senftenberg, to join an international study programme focussed on Hydroinformatics and Water Management (EUROAQUAE). This MSc programme allowed me to study for one semester at Newcastle University, where I met prof. J. Bathurst who sparked my interest in the initiation of bedload and sediment transport processes. After completing my MSc studies with a thesis on the long-term (morphological) evolution of large alluvial rivers, I spent one and a half year as academic assistant in Cottbus, lecturing graduate students Hydraulics and carrying on research on soil erosion triggered by rainfall.
I applied for a job position at IG PAS in May 2019 and one month later I joined the Hydrology and Hydrodynamics department. I am carrying on research on microplastics fate in rivers and streams with a focus on the interactions with river sediments.
