Greetings! I’m Marjan Izadi from Iran, currently a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Hydrology and Hydrodynamics at the Institute of Geophysics since September 2023.
I earned my degree in Mining Engineering from one of Iran’s top universities. During my Master’s, I dived into the world of satellite imagery, using remote sensing to identify the perfect location for a geomagnetic observatory in Kerman Province, Iran.
For my Ph.D., I shifted gears to geophysics, focusing on Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) research. As a visiting researcher at the Politecnico di Milano in Italy, I conducted extensive lab measurements, characterizing fractures in marble stone using the GPR method before and after treatment with resin.
Now, I’m delighted to be a part of Prof. Marzena Osuch’s team, exploring changes in the Arctic’s cryo-hydrogeological layers over time with GPR in the Fuglebekken catchment on Spitsbergen Island. Early on, I had the opportunity to join the team in Svalbard trip to conduct GPR measurements at Hornsund station – an experience that left a lasting impression. This special venture during my initial days with the team has been a source of immense joy. I eagerly await the next trip to Svalbard, anticipating more memorable experiences and opportunities for growth.
Each day in this beautiful country contributes to my professional growth, and I’m eager to make meaningful contributions to our team and the esteemed institute.
